Birth · Marriage · Death certificates

The certificates that anchor everything else.

Passports, visas, school admissions, inheritance, NIN corrections — they all start with a civil record. Whether yours is a 1980s paper certificate from an LGA registry or was never registered at all, we locate it, verify it, digitise it, replace it or correct it — and prepare it for anywhere it needs to go.

Part A Two systems, one identity

Paper certificates and digital attestations are not the same thing.

Nigeria’s civil registry has changed underneath everyone who was born before it went digital — and half the confusion online is people being asked for a document that didn’t exist when they were born. Here’s how the systems relate, and how we bridge them.

Then · Paper era

The paper certificate

Issued at hospitals, LGA registries and NPC offices — often handwritten, held in local ledgers, and sometimes lost to time, fire or relocation.

  • Still a valid record of your birth — if it can be found
  • Original ledgers live at specific local registries
  • Increasingly queried by embassies and portals wanting digital verification
Now · Digital era

The digital attestation

A digitally verifiable confirmation of your birth record issued through the modern registry — what newer processes, portals and many embassies now expect to see.

  • Verifiable by authorities without the paper ledger
  • Can be issued against a located historical record
  • What most passport and visa checklists mean by “birth certificate” today
The bridge is our job: we determine which document your specific process actually requires, locate the historical record where one exists, and obtain the digital attestation that satisfies modern checks — without you touring registries to find out.
Part B Civil registry services

Birth, marriage and death — registered, retrieved, corrected, certified.

Each service priced on its own, quoted after your free assessment. Where a registry requires a family member in person, we prepare everything and tell you exactly where and when.

CR-08

Record assessment

Free: tell us what you have, what it’s for and where you were born — we tell you exactly which document, path and price applies.

A note on death certificates: we know these requests come at hard times. One caseworker handles the whole process, asks for each thing only once, and keeps certified copies in your wallet so banks, courts and insurers can be answered without repeating the errand.
Part C Where your certificate goes next

A certificate is rarely the destination. It’s the key.

Tell us what the certificate is for and we prepare it in the form that destination accepts — and, if you want, carry it straight into the next process.

Record assessment

Tell us what you have — even “nothing, born at home in 1985” is a starting point — and what the certificate is for.

Step 02

Locate & verify

We trace the record through the issuing registry, confirm what exists, and quote a fixed price for the path that applies.

Step 03

Issue, replace or correct

Registration, attestation, re-issue or correction processed through official channels, tracked in your dashboard.

Step 04

Deliver & authenticate

Certified copies to your door and wallet — apostilled or legalised first if they’re travelling further than you are.

Part E Common questions

Asked at every registry counter.

Is my old paper birth certificate still valid, or do I need the digital attestation?
Your paper certificate remains a genuine record of your birth. The practical question is what the process in front of you will accept — and increasingly, passport offices, portals and embassies want a record they can verify digitally. The free assessment answers this for your specific case: sometimes the paper certificate is enough, sometimes you need an attestation issued against it, and occasionally you need both. We never sell you a document your process doesn’t require.
I was never registered at birth. Is it too late?
No — late registration exists precisely for this, and it’s far more common than people admit. Depending on your age and what supporting evidence exists (baptismal records, school records, parents’ documents), the path is either late registration of the birth or a sworn age declaration. We’ll tell you which applies, what each authority downstream will accept, and handle the registration end-to-end.
What exactly is an apostille, and do I need one?
An apostille is an official authentication that lets your Nigerian certificate be recognised in other countries, without further embassy certification — where the destination country participates in the apostille system. For countries that don’t, the alternative is legalisation through that country’s embassy. You don’t need to know which applies to your destination: tell us the country and the purpose, and we process the correct one.
Can you retrieve a marriage certificate if we married years ago?
If the marriage was conducted at a licensed registry or place of worship under the Marriage Act, a record exists and can usually be retrieved or verified from the issuing registry. Customary and religious marriages outside that system are recorded differently, and some processes will require a declaration instead of a certificate — the assessment establishes which situation is yours before any fee is quoted.
How quickly can a death certificate be processed?
It depends on whether the death was registered at the time and which registry holds the record — registered deaths with hospital documentation typically move fastest. Because these certificates are usually needed for banks, insurance and probate under time pressure, we treat them with priority by default, give you a realistic estimate at assessment, and provide certified copies in the quantities institutions actually demand, so you’re not repeating the process per bank.
My certificate has an error. Do I fix it here or through Identity Harmonisation?
Start here if the error lives only on the certificate; start with a harmonisation scan if the error has already spread into your NIN, passport or other records — because then the certificate correction is step one of a sequence, and doing it in isolation can leave the downstream records still wrong. If you’re unsure, either free assessment will route you correctly; they’re the same team.
Part F Start with the record

Whatever you have — or don’t — start with a free assessment.

A paper certificate from 1983, a name spelled two ways, or no record at all: tell us the situation and what it’s for, and we’ll map the exact path and price.
