Nigerian birth certificate from the UAE (2026)
If you are in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or elsewhere in the UAE and a Nigerian birth certificate is needed — for a residence or family visa, school enrolment, sponsoring a child, or a Nigerian passport — it can be sorted from the Gulf. Nigeria’s birth records are held by the National Population Commission (NPC), and registration or an attestation can be arranged for Nigerians in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and across the UAE, then legalised for local use. Here is who needs what, how it works, and how to avoid the delays.
Certificate, attestation or certified copy?
- Birth certificate — if the birth was registered with the NPC.
- Attestation of birth — if it was never registered (common for adults); widely accepted in place of a certificate.
- Certified true copy — often what a local authority specifically asks for.
Why it matters in the UAE
UAE authorities and schools require birth certificates to be attested for use in the Emirates. Because Nigeria is not an Apostille country, the chain is: Nigeria MFA authentication, then UAE embassy legalisation, then UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation on arrival. We manage that full chain so your visa or school process is not stalled.
- UAE residence / family visa & school: an attested (legalised) certificate is mandatory; we run the MFA + embassy + UAE-MOFA chain.
- Sponsoring a child: the certificate must match the parent’s passport exactly.
