The Dubai skyline with the Burj Khalifa — renewing a Nigerian passport in the UAE

Nigerians in the United Arab Emirates apply for and renew their passports online through the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and attend a Nigerian mission for biometrics — the Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate-General in Dubai. This guide covers how to renew or apply for a Nigerian passport in the UAE in 2026, whether you are in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or beyond.

Where UAE applications are processed

You complete and pay for the application online, select the UAE and your serving mission, and attend in person for biometric capture. Dubai serves the northern Emirates and Abu Dhabi the capital region, so choose the mission closest to where you live and work.

What you need in the UAE

  • A valid, correctly linked NIN
  • Your current or expired Nigerian passport (for a renewal)
  • Your Emirates ID and proof of UAE residence
  • Recent passport photographs to specification
  • Payment in the required currency, plus any collection arrangement
Insider tip: Your passport details and your UAE residence visa are linked, so a new passport usually means updating your Emirates ID and visa afterwards. Renew before your passport gets too close to expiry — many UAE processes need six months’ validity, and leaving it late can complicate your residence status.
