Nigeria passport offices & biometric capture: where to go in 2026
With the Nigerian passport process now largely online, the one step you still have to do in person is biometric capture — your fingerprints, photograph and signature at a passport office. Choosing the right office and arriving properly prepared is the difference between a single clean visit and being sent back twice. Where the passport offices are
- Lagos — multiple NIS passport offices (Ikoyi, Festac, Ikeja and others) plus the new front-office/e-Passport centres; some are far busier than others.
- Abuja (FCT) — the headquarters passport office and zonal offices.
- Port Harcourt, Kano, Ibadan and other state capitals — state command passport offices.
- Smaller towns — the nearest state command or approved capture centre.

Biometric capture, photo & the “interview”
- Biometrics — fingerprints, photo and signature are taken at the office; this is why it cannot be fully online.
- Passport photo — the capture station takes the official photo, but you must meet the spec (plain background, no glasses, ears and face clear, neutral expression). Turning up unprepared causes retakes.
- The “interview” — usually a short document verification and a few questions to confirm your details, not an ordeal. Have your documents consistent and it is quick.
