SON standards and SONCAP for imports
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) sets and enforces product standards. If you import regulated products, you almost certainly need a SONCAP certificate (SON Conformity Assessment Programme) to clear them — without it, goods are held or refused at the port. This guide explains SON certification, SONCAP, and how to get compliant before you ship.
The essentials
- SONCAP — for regulated imported products: a Product Certificate (from origin) plus the SONCAP Certificate used at clearance.
- SON product certification / MANCAP — for products made in Nigeria, the local conformity mark.
- Get it before shipping. Arranging conformity after goods arrive is where the expensive demurrage starts.
