NIN enrolment centres, booking & requirements (2026)
Enrolling for a NIN goes smoothly when you turn up at the right centre, at a sensible time, with exactly the right documents. This guide covers where to enrol in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Kano and elsewhere, how pre-enrolment and booking work, what to bring, and the special cases for children, students, workers and the elderly.
Where to enrol
NIMC enrolment is available nationwide through NIMC offices, licensed partner centres, and some bank and institutional points. In the big cities you have plenty of options:
- Lagos — numerous NIMC and partner centres across the mainland and island; some are far busier than others.
- Abuja (FCT) — NIMC head and zonal offices plus partner points.
- Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Kano and other state capitals — NIMC state offices and licensed partners.
- Smaller towns — local government NIMC points and licensed enrolment agents.
Because the busiest centres can mean long queues or being asked to come back, choosing well — and going early — matters as much as which city you are in.

Pre-enrolment and booking
Enrolment has two parts: a pre-enrolment step where your details are entered, and the capture appointment where your fingerprints and photo are taken in person. Getting pre-enrolment right means the in-person visit is quick. A sensible booking — the right centre, early in the day — is the difference between one trip and three.
What to bring
- A supporting document with your correct name and date of birth: birth certificate, declaration of age, voter’s card, driver’s licence, or an existing ID.
- Your phone number — ideally the line you will keep, so NIN retrieval and SIM linking work later.
- For minors: the child’s birth certificate and a parent/guardian with ID.
Special cases
- Children and newborns — can be enrolled; a NIN is increasingly needed for school and exams.
- Students — enrol ahead of JAMB/WAEC and admission deadlines.
- Workers — some employers and recruitment exercises require a NIN; a lunchtime slot at a quiet centre beats losing a day.
- Elderly or less mobile applicants — ask about assisted or home-service enrolment through licensed agents.
