You do not have to fly home to get a NIN. Nigeria runs diaspora enrolment through NIMC-licensed front-end partners in a number of countries, so Nigerians in the UK, USA, Canada, the UAE and beyond can enrol abroad. This guide explains who can register from overseas, how diaspora enrolment works, what it costs, and how foreigners and dual citizens fit in.

Who can register for a NIN from abroad?

Nigerian citizens living abroad — the main audience; you enrol as a citizen through a licensed diaspora centre.
Dual citizens (for example British-Nigerian, American-Nigerian) — yes, as Nigerian citizens. A NIN also supports your Nigerian passport.
Children born abroad to Nigerian parents — can be enrolled with the right documentation and a parent/guardian.
Foreigners legally resident in Nigeria enrol inside Nigeria; foreigners abroad generally do not need a Nigerian NIN unless a specific process requires it.

How diaspora enrolment works, step by step

Find a licensed centre in your country (the list of licensed partners changes, so confirm current ones).
Book and prepare documents — passport, proof of status/residence, and for children the supporting civil documents.
Attend for biometrics — fingerprints and photo are captured in person; this is why it cannot be done fully online.
Pay the diaspora fee and receive your NIN / slip per the centre’s process.

Match your names across documents. Diaspora applications get queried most often when the name or date of birth on your passport, your old Nigerian documents and your enrolment form do not line up. Sort that out before your appointment.
